Which shoreside roles are being hired, and what do they signal?

Short answer

Separate sales capacity from operational capacity. A broker vacancy concerns client acquisition and booking conversion; a yacht-management vacancy concerns the owner’s operating programme. The latter may improve the information available to a charter buyer, but the employee is not automatically an independent buyer representative. The distinctions are explicit in the employer job descriptions. (northropandjohnson.com)

Is there evidence of completed hiring, rather than advertisements alone?

Yes, at individual-company level. Northrop & Johnson announced Mateo Betancurth’s appointment as Charter Manager in Fort Lauderdale on November 3, 2025. That establishes a dated appointment within the last 12 months, but the announcement does not establish whether it increased total headcount or replaced another employee. (northropandjohnson.com)

A general invitation to submit a CV is weaker evidence. For example, IYC’s careers page describes numerous office functions and accepts speculative applications; it should not be counted as a separate funded vacancy for every function mentioned. (iyc.com)

Why does the distinction between charter broker and charter manager matter?

IYC describes charter management as an owner-facing function involving calendar management, yacht promotion, contract negotiation on the owner’s behalf and commercial performance. That differs from the client-development responsibilities in the retail broker advertisements. Ask who represents which party and who is responsible for verifying each material promise. A job title alone does not settle that question. (iyc.com)
