At what point does bringing in a specialist save the most work?

Short answer

Our assessment: the highest-value intervention is usually immediately before yacht selection, while alternatives remain open and before the organizer starts preparing a deposit for one preferred choice. The intended benefit is avoiding rework and identifying cost or suitability issues early—not promising a cheaper charter.

Use a narrow scope before buying a broad engagement. Ask for a fixed or capped fee, the yachts and document versions included, the delivery deadline, confidentiality arrangements and any supplier compensation or referral income.

An independent research engagement should not duplicate work already completed well by the broker. If current evidence resolves the brief, the budget is transparent and specialist questions are closed, an additional report may add little.

No reliable typical dollar saving was established in this research. Evaluate the proposed work against a specific task: resolving a cabin mismatch, explaining a delivery charge, testing route assumptions or organizing contract questions before signature. Do not value it using an invented percentage of the charter price.
