Do new yacht codes change which yacht a family should book?
They change the diligence questions more than the brochure comparison. Identify the yacht’s flag, certification basis and applicable transition rules; do not assume that a new code automatically makes every older yacht non-compliant.

What changed under the Marshall Islands flag?
The Marshall Islands Registry identifies its Yacht Code 2026 as effective January 1, 2026. Its release explains that the revision addresses developments in yacht design, construction and operation and alignment with revised IMO instruments. (register-iri.com)
Ask the manager for a brief statement identifying the code edition applicable to the yacht, current statutory certification and any conditions affecting the booked use. This report does not establish the vessel-specific transition treatment of an individual Marshall Islands yacht.
What is actually due under the Red Ensign Group changes?
REG published Corrigenda No. 1 on April 28, 2026. Selected marked amendments concerning matters including hull openings, safety-critical systems and stability use a January 1, 2027 building-contract trigger, or a keel-stage trigger where there is no contract. Other corrections use a July 1, 2024 construction trigger. This is not a blanket January 2027 retrofit deadline for the charter fleet. (redensigngroup.org)
For a yacht marketed around fold-down terraces, beach clubs or elaborate tender facilities, ask what operating restrictions apply to those features. For a newly delivered yacht, request the final certification and an explicit statement of any incomplete work or temporary conditions before final payment.
Is twelve guests still a universal superyacht limit?
No. The REG Code’s scope distinguishes Part A yachts carrying no more than 12 passengers from Part B yachts carrying more than 12 but no more than 36. This is an example of why the applicable certification matters more than the number of beds shown in a brochure. (redensigngroup.org)
For a multi-generational group, submit the complete proposed party—including accompanying household staff—to the manager for classification. Request separate confirmation of permitted overnight passengers, any day-guest arrangements and tender capacity. Do not improvise a way to fit an extra person into the certificate.
