Can a yacht chef handle food allergies and complex dietary requirements?

Short answer

Ask for an explicit capability discussion before selecting the yacht when a requirement is essential. Northrop & Johnson emphasizes the pre-charter preference sheet and early communication with the chef about food requirements. (northropandjohnson.com)

For material allergies or restrictions, our recommended discussion should cover:

  • The practical requirement, separately from ordinary preferences.
  • Whether the chef can source suitable ingredients.
  • Storage, preparation and cross-contact questions.
  • Whether the proposed menus work for the whole group.
  • What changes if the yacht visits a different provisioning port.
  • Relevant emergency arrangements and information the captain needs.

Ask the yacht to state any limitation plainly. A willingness to try is not the same as a confirmed ability to meet a critical requirement.
