Why do draft, tender access and protected-area rules matter in the Bahamas?

Short answer

Ask how guests will reach each experience—not merely whether the yacht can cruise in the Bahamas. Have the captain identify which destinations the yacht itself can access, which require a tender and what alternatives apply.

Key points from this page
  • For a family itinerary:

Our recommended route check includes:

  • The yacht’s actual operating draft and relevant access constraints.
  • Captain-approved anchoring or mooring arrangements.
  • Tender transfer time and boarding suitability.
  • Whether an older guest can participate without an unsuitable transfer.
  • Permitted activities at each planned location.

Protected-area rules can directly affect the activity plan. The Bahamas National Trust states that fishing, shelling and conching are not permitted within Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park. (bnt.bs)

For a family itinerary: ask the captain to mark each excursion as accessible to everyone, suitable only for part of the group, or dependent on conditions. Provide an appealing alternative for guests who stay aboard.

This research is not a pilotage guide. The captain should determine safe routing and operations using the yacht’s characteristics and current local information.
